Start off your Summer with a tasty treat: Winooski Creemee Guide 2023

As locals celebrate the end of Mud Season and tourists flock to take in Vermont’s priceless nature, it is vital to know where to get the best cold treat on a hot summer day. Our friends at VTDigger recognized this recently when they released their statewide creemee spot database. Inspired by their work, the Winooski News took to the Onion City’s sidewalks to figure out some of the best places to slow down, grab a creemee and take a stroll.

For the Classic Vermonter: Waterworks Creemee Stand

Waterworks Creemee Window, 20 Winooski Falls Way

For the second summer in a row, Waterworks has opened up a creemee window in its historic riverside location. After enjoying classics like the truffle fries or rainbow rice bowl that the restaurant has to offer, patrons can satisfy their sweet tooths with a tourist-friendly maple creemee ($3-4) or the “Vermonster” –- an adventurous combo of maple and bacon ($7). Owner David Abdoo said Waterworks uses real maple syrup for the maple creemee in an effort to “provide quality ingredients for the families enjoying their ice cream.”

For the Bold: Scout and Company

Scout and Co, 1 E Allen Street

Scout and Company not only provides patrons their caffeine fix every morning with a full espresso bar — the cafe also offers delicious ice cream. Grab a coffee and a pastry before you discover Scout’s ever-evolving ice cream flavors. For the first week of July, Scout is offering customers flavor combinations involving blueberry, maple, lemon zest and caramel. The cafe technically doesn’t sell creemees — its hard ice cream — but with this Winooski staple’s spot on the roundabout near popular stores, it can be a convenient choice.

For the Vegan: Offbeat Creemee

Offbeat Creemee on Pine Street, right by Myers Memorial Pool, offers its customers dairy- and egg-free ice cream, something relatively unique in the city. The shop also carries many gluten-free options to ensure everyone can enjoy its products. This Black-owned business has a goal to experiment with new recipes to create vegan ice cream that tastes as delicious as always. Stop by on the first Saturday of every month and any tips go to the store’s Cone it Forward program, which gets ice cream to underserved children. The restaurant accepts donations and tip money for the first hour it’s open.

For the Chocolate Lover: Rosie’s Confectionary

Rosie’s Confectionary, 7 West Canal St

Between the bustling shops of Winooski is the Parisian-inspired cafe Rosie’s Confectionary. The pink and floral interior transports guests to Europe along with the shop’s chocolate bon-bons. On top of those offerings, Rosie’s plans to serve chocolate and vanilla creemees for the warm summer months. Cole O’Shaughmessy, a frequent visitor before becoming a barista there, raved about the “welcoming environment that makes you want to sit and chat for hours.”

Whichever part of Winooski you may find yourself in this summer, be sure to indulge in the delicious variety of creemees and desserts the Onion City has to offer.
