Winooski Hires City Manager
The Winooski City Council hired Elaine Wang as the new city manager at its March 21 meeting.
Wang has served as Barre’s Assistant Town Manager since 2016.
She will take over the city’s top administrative job from Wendy Harrison. Last October, Harrison was hired as interim manager when Winooski’s first job search failed to produce an acceptable candidate.
Winooski Mayor Kristine Lott said the most recent search produced a robust set of finalists.
“It was logistically challenging but resulted in a really good strong pool of diverse and skilled candidates, and I think had good community engagement as well,” Lott said.
Lott says Wang had strong support during the community input phase of the hiring process.
“We are really excited to welcome her and think she is going to be a really good fit for the role and hit the ground running successfully for our community,” Lott said.
Wang previously worked for Sustainable Communities in Montpelier and holds a master’s in public administration from Norwich University, according to a March 22 press release. She was one of 19 applicants.
"It's an honor to have been appointed Winooski's next City Manager,” Wang said in the press release. “There's so much about the City to love and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to better understand and serve its community members.”
Wang will start as Winooski’s City Manager on May 16.
